Uplook - November 18, 2023
Happy Saturday from the Philippines.
Our week has gone well here and we are looking forward to a good Sunday. This week we were able to visit our branch churches in Parista and Maragol on Tuesday with snacks and fellowship in both locations. I reminded the saints in Maragol that I was privileged to bring a donation from the saints in South Korea on my first trip to the Philippines in 1994 which was used to purchase the church site in Maragol. In Parista we were greeted by a group of saints both young and old who continue to worship faithfully in that small community. Many of the young people are university students but they travel home for weekends to participate in the work of the church including cleaning, music, and prayer.
There was good attendance at the Wednesday evening Bible Study in the Bagong Sikat Headquarters. We met outside at the front of the church and sang a few songs before hearing an inspiring study on “Avoiding Gossip”. We were told that when they began to have in person Bible Studies again after the pandemic the attendance was only 10-12 but now over 50 were gathered for the study and the soup which followed.
Thursday evening we were privileged to again worship at an outdoor Young Peoples service in our Tabulac church. This church has suffered greatly with the death of a young member last year on the way home from youth camp and also the loss of one of their pastors, Bro. Emanuel Miranda due to heart issues. His wife Sis. Guadalupe Miranda continues to pastor the church and we were thrilled that the pain and sorrow of loss has bound the young people together in unity as they seek God. The Holy Spirit was very present in the service and they were receptive to the message from 3 John 1-4 about being loved by God and the ministry and continuing to walk in the truth.
Saturday morning, pastors and assisting ministers, elders, and workers gathered at the HQ church for a meeting. Bro. Roque Fiegalan, Philippine District Superintendent spoke of the scheduling for their upcoming year end camp meeting and then we encouraged them to be faithful in their service. Our topic for the morning was “Facing Challenges”. We were also blessed to be able to watch a video of the Philippine work which was made by Bro. Dial Keju from Washington DC who accompanied us on our previous trip here in January.
We are looking forward to a good day in the Lord tomorrow both here in the Philippines and also there in America. We plan to return home on Tuesday evening Lord willing and would appreciate your continuing prayers for us and the work here.
Blessings,
BB
