Beloved Saints,
I have sitting on my desk some small round objects called “Air Tags”. This is one brand of many including, “Smart tags”, “SmartTrack link” “One Spot, “Tile Pro/Slim” etc. They are used to attach to items such as luggage, backpacks, keys, etc. in order to track or at least keep track of them. They are relatively inexpensive and battery operated. The technology uses a Bluetooth signal which generally connects to a phone or other network to accomplish this tracking task. In my case, I simply log onto a phone application called “Find My” and the location of my items.
I initially scoffed at more 21st century technology to add to this person born in the 20th century (just past half way through it). But finally convinced, now use them regularly whenever we travel and they helped locate lost luggage much more quickly than a particular airline was able to do. This lost luggage episode ended up getting us flight credit which was much more than the airtags initial cost.
I have also noticed a side benefit of these trackers…and that is that I can set it to receive a notice on my phone whenever we are separated from the luggage/bag/purse to which they are attached…allowing us to proactively retrieve the item before it is actually “lost”.
I began to consider how they operate much like the Holy Spirit…initially identifying our “lostness” in sin with what we have traditionally called “Holy Ghost conviction”. Communicating directly with the human heart, the Holy Spirit convicts of sin and draws us toward the redemptive offer of salvation by faith in Christ Jesus. The “price” for the tracker has been paid so following its lead brings literally 100% return. Thank the Lord for such accurate tracking. And yet, the Holy Spirit also acts much like my trackers…alerting us when we begin to stray away from the Lord or wander off in our own direction. These promptings usually come directly to our hearts but sometimes the Holy Spirit uses scripture, life situations or even others to help us notice our need to be “relocated” back near to the Lord.
As we approach Easter, may the Lord help each of us to activate our spiritual “Find My” app within our hearts. God is not willing for anyone to be lost and has gone to great lengths to search us out and “find us”. (See Luke 15) Thank the Lord, we can not only be “found” but the Holy Spirit will continue to draw us near to the Lord when circumstances, challenges, and choices might try to draw us away from Him.
God bless you all,
BB
