Uplook - January 28, 2023

Good afternoon dear saints,

As I look out my office window, I have begun to see the earliest signs of an approaching spring.  While trimming in the back yard yesterday (in the cold) I saw signs of trees budding and the earliest of flowers beginning to poke out of the ground.  This past Thursday (January 26th) was the first time the sun has set after 5 pm since November 6.  I have taken to calling those months from November through most of January as “hibernation season” since the days are so short.  But today it is a clear and sunny day reminding me of the lyrics of a popular Christian song.

Brighter Days
Chorus: I know there's gonna be some brighter days. I swear that love will find you in your pain. I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins.  I know there's gonna be some brighter days. I know there's gonna be some brighter days

Oh, ashes fall from burning dreams. Oh, never lived through times like these. Oh, if you're trying hard to breathe in the dark…In the dark

Chorus: I know there's gonna be some brighter days (yes, I do). I swear that love will find you in your pain (oh). I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins. I know there's gonna be some brighter days. I know there's gonna be some brighter days.

Oh, if your screams don't make a sound (if your screams don't make a sound). Oh, if your walls are crashing down (crashing down, crashing down). Oh, if your heart just cries too loud all the time…All the time, whoa
Chorus (repeat twice)

Weather is predicted to be very cold the next several days reminding us that winter does not give up it’s grip easily, but be assured that each day is getting longer with just a bit more sunshine.   I’m reminded of the writing of CS Lewis in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” when he describes fictitious Narnia under the cold rule of the White Witch; “Always winter and never Christmas, think of that!”.   For a children’s book, this summarizes the hopeless feeling which sin brings not only to a life but to an entire world.  Dark times with no joy or hope on the horizon.   Thank the Lord…that even in the coldest and darkest times (winter) we always have the promise of Christmas.  Not gaudy decorations, bright lights, and expensive presents but instead, the hope, light, and life which was brought into our dark cold world through Jesus Christ.  Not only born at Christmas but lived a sinless life, gave that life sacrificially for all humanity, and took it back again raised from the dead ascending to heaven to make intercession for those who have put their trust in Him.

Dear saints…even if things seem dark and cold…there’s gonna be some brighter days because of what Jesus did and is still doing in hearts and lives.  May it begin afresh in us just like the budding of the trees and the poking through the frozen ground of the flowers soon to bloom.   God bless you all.
