Uplook - January 21, 2023
Dear Seattle Saints,
Another week has passed and we are already nearer to February than to December. Often when we were young we found ourselves impatient with the slow passage of time as we waited for important milestones such as birthdays, Christmas, the next school year, graduations, etc. I have noticed that as I have grown older the speed of the clock seems to be increasing exponentially. Of course, this is not true at all but things seemingly now fly by at a rapid pace. It seems only a short time ago Lori and I married and started a family and yet reality shows it has been years and we now enjoy a number of grandchildren, some of whom are nearly grown and anticipating their own milestones which to them seem to be coming so slowly. To us however they are racing by. I suppose the words of the wise author of Ecclesiastes are appropriate when he stated:
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the
strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour
to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. Ecclesiastes 9:11
So as we move through the new year, whether time seems to be plodding slowly or racing quickly, may we use the time we are given wisely and the opportunities (chance) God has given to deepen our relationship with the Lord and also with those around us. We know that all of the rest is just “icing on the cake” and will soon be gone. It is our prayer that both young and old among us will find the peace and wholeness which God intends for all of us and which flows not from our age, health, economics, or circumstances, but rather from our relationships with God and the others around us.
A couple of other notes:
1) CHOIR PRACTICE will begin again tomorrow before evening service at 3:45 pm. The choir is scheduled to sing the following Sunday morning so please be there. I know this seems a bit early but with the change of evening service to 5 pm it is necessary and I believe preferred to having practice after church. God bless you for your faithfulness.
2. Please be in prayer for the family of Sis. Susie Lee who passed away this week in Portland. She and her wife Dayle worshipped with us for a number of years in Seattle and are the parents of Matthew Lee who also worshipped here for some time and also Andrea Beadles who is part of our congregation. Also remember Bro. Dayle who is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. God bless this family in their loss.
3) 2022 Contribution letters for tax purposes went in the mail this week. Please check with the pastor if you have not received yours by the end of the month. Thanks.
Blessings,
BB
