Uplook - September 21, 2024
It’s a sunny Saturday in Seattle!
As the Fall season officially begins tomorrow, we do not take for granted the sunshine that we still enjoy. In the Psalms we are reminded,
"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same The Lord’s name is to be praised." Psalm 113:3
Of course, the writer is using the daily rhythms of life to declare that the great God of creation who is also the covenant God of Israel (and now all who embrace Christ as savior) is worthy of praise and honor no matter the circumstance, situation, or weather. We naturally rejoice in sunshine here in the Northwest because we have an abundance of precipitation, but I can remember a time when we lived in the Central Valley of California for a season. In that location with less than 10 inches of annual rainfall, when it did rain there was rejoicing as well. My first pastor used to say “All rain makes for a flood and all sun makes for a desert. We need both in God’s balance.” May our lives be lived in praise and honor to God who “daily loadeth us with benefits” and who is “upholding all things by the word of His power.”
For those of you who depend upon our live streamed services, please be advised that we will be recessing services tomorrow in Seattle so we can support the special meetings of our sister church in Chehalis. Bro. Alex opened the services last night and I have been asked to preach in the morning there. For those traveling, the morning service will begin at 10 am (with no Sunday School) and the afternoon service will begin at 4 pm. Please pray for traveling safety as well as for God’s blessing on the services there. We will be holding Bible Study in Seattle on Wednesday evening at 7 pm on the usual schedule with live streaming on all our platforms .
Proverbs 27:17 states: "Iron sharpeneth iron; So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." When we gather together in church and when we travel for special meetings, we have the opportunity to encourage, uplift, and challenge one another to a deeper understanding of the love of God and to connect just as the early church did around worship, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer. May the Lord help us in all our interactions to build up one another in the most holy faith. God bless you all.
Housekeeping Notes:
Contact information: We update our church contact information list on an annual basis and the time has come. While we do try to make updates through the year, the official list will be updated next week. Please inform me via email, text, or with a note if any of your contact information has changed this year. This would include mail address, phone number, or email address. Also, please inform us if you wish to be added to or removed from this weekly email (we won’t be offended) as a version of it is also posted on our website blog.
Seattle Special Meetings: Don't forget we will be holding special meetings on October 19 & 20 here in Seattle. Pray for God's blessing upon them and also watch for opportunities to serve as the time approaches.
Blessings,
BB
