Weekly Update - August 6 from South Korea
Greetings from Seoul, South Korea.
It is Saturday afternoon and I am writing from the fourth floor church apartment where we stay when visiting here. The Korean saints have joyfully gathered from 6 branch churches for these meetings which began on Thursday evening. The services would remind you of our services in Seattle over the past couple of years. There is a small orchestra made up of a few violins, a few flutes, and two saxophones. The Korean government still requires masks for indoor gatherings and the saints are happy to keep one another safe while holding services. The preacher (and interpreter in my case) is allowed to remove the mask for the message but beyond that it is a very familiar feeling and look.
Fortunately the saints here have not let such requirements dampen their hunger and anticipation of God’s blessing in the services. Koreans in general as a culture are a praying people and that is certainly the case with our Korean saints. We have heard inspiring messages from several of our Korean pastors on topics such as “Thankfulness to God”, “Entering into God’s Rest”, and “Obedience”. I spoke once already from Micah 6:1-8 on “What Does the Lord Require?” We are anticipating another good service this evening when our Korean District Superintendent, Bro. Kim Jeong Min will bring the message. Lord willing, I will be bringing tomorrows message in the morning worship service which concludes the campmeeting. My text is a familiar one from Jude 3 charging us to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” May the Lord help us all (in Korea and in Seattle) to do just that by God’s grace.
Weather here is hot (91 F is the high today with 79F the low) with humidity at 77%. The weather application on my phone says it feels like 100F and I can attest that it is true. Thank the Lord for air-conditioning in the apartment and the sanctuary along with a number of fans. We were able to watch the Wednesday Bible Study from home and enjoyed it very much. We anticipate arriving back in Seattle on Monday afternoon around 4 pm and will be happy to see many of you in next Wednesday’s Bible Study. In the mean time please continue to pray for us and for the meetings here. Of course we will be praying for tomorrows meetings in Seattle as well.
