Uplook - May 4. 2024

Dear Saints,

Saturday greetings from the pastor’s desk.  You no doubt noted that there was no email/post for last week.  Lori and I were in Woodlake, CA for a weekend of special meetings where I was the speaker for the weekend.  Although I sometimes create my weekly email/post from a distance when traveling, this time the schedule simply made it impossible.   Thank you for your prayers and understanding.

The theme for last weekend was “Passing the Mantle” with a focus on the nature of God’s calling to all generations.  The Scriptural foundation of the weekend was found in 1 & 2 Kings with the story of the passing of the prophetic “mantle” from Elijah to Elisha.   There was discussion and preaching about our need to respond to God’s calling by “picking up the mantle” from those before us as well as “passing on the mantle” on by the previous generation.   Providentially, the University of Washington Track/Field team was on our flight south and provided an example of how relay races are most often won or lost at the passing of the baton between runners.   May the Lord help all of us not to “drop the baton” as we either give or receive.  The Gospel of Christ is the solution to the problems facing our world today.  May we train with the same fervency as a university track team so we can make sure the next generation receives the same pure and life changing message which we received.

God bless you all.
Housekeeping Notes:
  1. Camp meeting registration.  Please remember to register for Portland Camp Meeting if you are planning to attend and stay on the grounds.  Note: Minor children lodging apart from their parents must be registered individually; otherwise one form per family is sufficient.  All attending must have pastoral approval.  I receive a list of those registered from Seattle for so it makes it easier for me if you register early. If you have questions please check with me.
  2. Youth Camp Applications.  We have received applications for the NW Youth camp.  Dates are Monday, July 22 through Saturday, July 27.  Age range is entering 4th grade through high school.  Fee is $285 per camper which includes housing, food,  t-shirt and concessions.  We are discussing fundraising options and will inform those interested. Seattle applications must be completed and returned to me along with camp fees NO LATER THAN Sunday, June 23. (So I can deliver them and fees to HQ the first Sunday of Camp meeting).   A flier is posted in the Narthex and applications will be available from Sunday School teachers.    NOTE:  If you are interested in helping as a staff member…please contact me prior to June 9 so I can inform the Camp Director.

In Christ,
BB
