Uplook - January 06, 2023

Good evening,

It is already dark and I am just sitting down to write.  Normally that might mean some sort of bad new or challenges for which I had not prepared and now scrambling to catch up.   Instead this time…it is only good news.   Lori has been firmly planted on the couch since her foot surgery and we both had our first good nights sleep in weeks last night.  After getting her settled after breakfast I began to work on tomorrow’s message.  Our eldest daughter texted asking if she could bring us a “treat” to which I replied “sure”.  Later, I was interrupted by the delivery of a bag of dog food for our Golden Retriever, Oliver.  He was overjoyed😊

I went back to work only to be interrupted again by someone knocking at our door.  A little annoyed I looked through the window and saw the back of a man knocking at our door.  Wondering who it might be I held the dog and opened the door and to my great surprise our son Joshua was standing at the door.  I was mostly speechless.  He had been on his way home from the East Coast on business and because of flight difficulties was “stranded in Seattle” for about 12 hours.   While still in the air he arranged with his sisters to pick him up and surprise us.   It was such a great surprise and brought tears to Lori’s eyes when he hugged her.   We have been able to enjoy the entire afternoon together with family which is a blessing indeed.   Our eldest daughters family has now departed so they can be ready for church tomorrow.  Our youngest daughter and granddaughter will depart soon as their husband/father will get off work soon.  And that will leave me to deliver my son to the airport so he can return to his family which is 450 miles away.

If you are disappointed that my note today is not deeply theological, please accept my sincere apologies.  And then, rejoice with me that our son whom we do not see often afforded us a great surprise gift which brought us great joy.  It is our prayer that the great God whom we serve will bring you many surprises during 2024 and that they will bring great joy to you and yours.
God bless.
