Uplook - June 3, 2023

Dear Seattle Saints,

It is June and it seems the sun has decided to stay around for a while😊.   In our church tradition summer is the time when we look forward to camp meeting conventions and youth camps.  Many of us consider our “church year” to run from camp meeting to camp meeting.  This year’s Portland Headquarters camp meeting begins on Sunday, June 25 and continues through Sunday, July 9, but there are many other camp meetings which will be held around the world this summer as well.   They include gatherings the Midwestern United States (Fredericktown, MO),  and the South/East United States (Orlando, FL) as well as internationally in South Korea, United Kingdom (Wales), Nigeria (Lagos and other locations), Canada (Roddickton, NF) , and St. Thomas, USVI, plus some I probably missed.  Then of course there are the camp meetings which are held in our winter in the southern hemisphere (which is their summer) which would include Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Australia, just to name a few.

For our organization and our church specifically, it becomes a time when we can become “refocused and recentered” on things eternal.  The Apostle Paul reminded the infant churches in the cosmopolitan city of Corinth of the need to refocus and recenter in the midst of challenges on many fronts.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment seen are eternal., worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17–18

So, while God is present in each of our services and in our every day living, may we prepare our hearts in anticipation for God to work in a special way at camp meeting.  Many will travel while others may be able to watch via online streaming but in either case, we believe God has something special in store for all who will prepare their hearts to seek the Lord. Along with preparing your hearts and minds…please remember to make sure you and/or any family who will be staying on the camp grounds register at apostolicfaith.org so I can review and approve it before you/they arrive.   And a special blessing/peek is in store tomorrow as Bro. Bob Downey, Director of North America Work will be our guest speaker in the morning service.  (We share some wonderful grandchildren which they are visiting).

Housekeeping items:
  1. Sis. Louise Fisher – Sis. Louise went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening.  She was the last remaining founding member of our Seattle church (1955-1956). She was just 4 months shy of her 94th birthday.  When Lori and I visited her after Mother’s Day in the hospital she was alert and talking about her hope of seeing Jesus.  Details are pending for potential services/burial.  Please pray for her son Donald (Barbara) and her grandchildren in their loss.  Sis. Fisher will be greatly missed by her family and by the many saints for whom she prayed regularly.
  2. Youth Camp – Youth camp applications are available from Sunday school teachers.  Cost this year is $285 (including t shirt) but the Seattle church is covering $25 for each camper leaving a balance of $260.  We have a fundraising car wash scheduled for 10am -2pm next Saturday, June 10 at the church.  Funds raised will be divided between those students who attend reducing their final fee.   NOTE: APPLICATIONS AND FEES MUST BE TURNED IN TO THE PASTOR BY SUNDAY, JUNE 16.  (He must turn them in to HQ by camp meeting).
  3. Graduation Dinner – We will have an all church dinner next Sunday, June 11 after morning service to celebrate our graduates. Some from this year, and several from previous years during the pandemic which have not yet been celebrated.  Check the church bulletin board or weekly email for the names of graduates.
  4. Upcoming projects -   We have received a bid for the repair/recoating/restriping of our parking lot this summer and will let you know of the schedule.  We also have received bids for the complete reroofing of the church building (it has been about 25 years) and will advise you of that schedule as well.  We are currently looking for a contractor who is willing to help us transform/remodel the two 1st floor restrooms into ADA compliance as well as the third floor restroom.  We thought we had someone and they have backed out.  Please pray the Lord will send a reputable contractor to do at least the minimal work needed for electrical and doors.  It is our plan to have this complete before year end.

God bless you all.  We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow in the Lord’s house.
